Geppetto (Martin Landau) makes his living as a wood carver. Because he is unable to declare his love for Leona (Genevieve Bujold) he finds himself feeling lonely. He carves a puppet to look like a little boy from the very tree where he had carved the initials of his love Leona. On the puppet, below his wooden heart, he carves her initials again and longs for a son. His longing is magically realized when his puppet of a little boy comes to life. This magical boy, Pinocchio (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) struggles to live in the real world and decides one day to run away to the Island of Lost Boys where he gets into all kinds of trouble.
